Megathread: Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court has officially released its ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, on the constitutionality of pre-viability abortion bans. The Court ruled 6–3 that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion, overturning both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and returning "the authority to regulate abortion" to the states.

Justice Alito delivered the majority opinion, joined by Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Justices Thomas, Kavanaugh, and Chief Justice Roberts each filed concurring opinions, while Justices Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan dissented.

The ruling can be found here:

I am VERY pro abortion. In fact I support abortion retroactively to the point that a fetus becomes a scumbag POS Supreme Court Justice taking rights from others. At that point, abort it.

1st world country BTW, what a joke.

Holy shit, didn't even think this was possible.

America is a fascist hellhole tbh.

In most online spaces, this decision is being talked about as catastrophic, horrendous, awful.

But what scares me is that out in the country itself, there are tens of millions of people who support it, and support it fervently. Opposing abortion is very popular and large swaths of the country (the vast majority, geographically), so now that the right to abortion has effectively been removed on a federal level, what are all of these anti-abortion people going to do?

Their states and regions are the ones most likely to fully ban abortion. Then what? I guess nobody knows for sure, but it will probably depend upon which exact cases making their way through the courts.

It will be difficult to challenge things like gay marriage, because anybody who is opposed to it won't often have a legitimate stake in it, e.g., if you are opposed to Fred and David getting married, what is your legitimate reason to file a court case?

But I don't think that will stop them.

Does any other democrat feel let down? I hate to say this but when will this party fight back, like actually fighting back? Two years and still no nominations for Supreme Court.

Thank you Republicans, for once again making my country worse

A victory to all the 70+ year old christians who will no doubt be dead in a decade, them votes though!
